The name of this safari camp really fits. Mahali Mzuri means ‘beautiful place’ in Swahili, which is a perfect way to describe this amazing location. It’s on the northern edge of Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve and is one of the few lucky safari camps in the exclusive Olare Motorogi Conservancy.

This area is full of different animals, like elephants, wildebeests, lions, zebras, and leopards. The whole region is alive with nature, and the camp’s skilled Maasai guides and trackers are great at finding even the hardest-to-spot animals. The stunning scenery adds to the romantic ‘Out of Africa’ vibe that most guests feel during their stay. The adventure starts right at the camp, so you don’t have to drive far to see wildlife.

Wildlife is all around the camp, giving guests a chance to see nature’s action, like the lion prides’ territorial fights. The conservancy is home to about 150,000 wildebeests, who stay outside the big ‘Great Migration’ that happens every year.

During the Great Migration, up to a million wildebeests, along with thousands of zebras, gazelles, eland, and topi, travel the 1,600-kilometer journey through Tanzania and Kenya. Predators like lions, leopards, and hyenas take advantage of this huge animal movement, making for amazing sights. The Great Migration usually reaches the conservancy between July and September, leaving around November to return to the Serengeti in Tanzania.

Mahali Mzuri takes comfort and luxury to new levels. The camp has twelve fancy safari tents and a central main tent that feels warm and relaxing. The main tent has a cozy lounge area with a fireplace, a library with books, iPads for guests, an iPod docking station, a games console, and a TV.

Guests can use binoculars for free, but bringing your own is a good idea. The main tent’s big deck is where breakfast and lunch are served, seating up to 24 guests at a shared table. One of the coolest features is the camp’s twelve-meter infinity-edge swimming pool, which can be heated when it’s cooler. The Nasaro Spa, in a spa tent, offers guests stunning views of the bush during relaxing massages.

Perched on a ridge above the river, each of the twelve tented suites is beautifully decorated and designed for ultimate comfort. Six tents are on either side of the main tent. The farthest guest tent is just a five-minute walk from the main tent area. The views from each guest tent are breathtaking, inviting guests to gaze into the horizon.

The tents have a touch of safari nostalgia, with leather couches, dark-wood furniture, and bright accents. Among the twelve tents, ten are made for two adults, while two bigger tents can host two extra guests aged fifteen and under in the family rooms.

Mahali Mzuri can accommodate up to 24 guests at any time. Inside each tent, guests will find an en-suite bathroom, a private deck, and amenities like a Bose iPod dock, a Nespresso machine, free bottled water, a minibar, and Africology bath products.

Two family safari tents are available, equipped with a sofa bed for children. The camp provides special meals for kids and offers a range of activities just for young adventurers. Kids can join beading lessons led by local Maasai women or try beginner’s archery.

When they arrive, kids get a ‘bushbaby bag’ filled with coloring books, nature-trail games, and a cap. Families with four or more members get a private safari vehicle for game drives. Mahali Mzuri welcomes children aged eight and over.
